Entebbe, Uganda: President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has reiterated his call for dialogue as the only viable solution to the escalating conflict in Sudan, emphasizing the need to address root causes to achieve lasting peace.

Museveni made the remarks during a meeting with Mr. Malik Agar, Deputy Chairman of Sudan’s Transitional Sovereignty Council, who called on him at State House Entebbe on Thursday. Agar led Sudan’s delegation to the 12th high-level Regional Oversight Mechanism (ROM) summit under the Peace, Security and Cooperation (PSC) Framework for the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Great Lakes Region.

During their closed-door discussions, Museveni stressed that the ongoing conflict in Sudan requires honest dialogue and deeper reflection on its underlying issues. “You cannot achieve real peace unless you identify and resolve the root causes of the conflict,” he told the delegation.

Museveni also used the opportunity to urge Sudanese leaders to work together for a national solution rather than relying on external actors.

Earlier at the ROM summit, Museveni officially assumed chairmanship of the PSC Framework and urged leaders in the Great Lakes region to take full responsibility for the peace process with minimal foreign interference. He reaffirmed Uganda’s commitment to advancing regional stability through African-led solutions.

Since late 2023, Museveni has hosted and engaged delegations from both sides of Sudan’s internal conflict, promoting dialogue and ceasefire initiatives. His efforts have positioned Uganda as a key mediator in the Horn of Africa and Great Lakes regions.
