Manchester, England: Manchester United have reached a full agreement with Wolverhampton Wanderers for the signing of Brazilian forward Matheus Cunha, after activating his £62.5 million release clause to become Ruben Amorim’s first signing of the summer.
The 26-year-old forward, who has 13 senior caps for Brazil, is now set to join the Red Devils pending visa clearance and final registration, according to a club statement on Sunday afternoon.
The deal, described as one of the biggest domestic transfers this window, brings Cunha to Old Trafford after an impressive two-and-a-half-year spell at Wolves, where he netted 33 goals in 92 appearances across all competitions. The Brazilian scored 17 goals and provided six assists for Wolves last season.
Sources close to the club confirmed that United triggered Cunha’s clause after final internal approvals were granted, following weeks of behind-the-scenes negotiations between the player’s representatives and the Old Trafford hierarchy.
United agreed to a structure of payment over two years with Solves, and the former Atletico Madrid winger is now expected to undergo medical checks later this week.
Despite interest from other teams, Cunha wanted to play for United. He thinks United are one of the biggest clubs in the world and was not deterred by them missing out on Champions League football following their defeat to Tottenham in the Europa League final.

A dynamic and versatile attacker known for his pace, flair, and ability to play across the front line, Cunha has already amassed 270 senior appearances and 72 goals throughout his club career, featuring in top-flight leagues in England, Spain, Germany, and Switzerland.
His career includes stints at RB Leipzig, Hertha Berlin, Atlético Madrid, and, most recently, Wolves, where he became a fan favourite for his work rate and clinical finishing.
Man United head coach Ruben Amorim is understood to have personally pushed for Cunha’s signature, viewing the Brazilian as a vital addition to bolster a front line that struggled with injuries and inconsistency last season.
Cunha, who won Olympic gold with Brazil in Tokyo 2020, will become United’s first major acquisition of the summer as Amorim aims to rebuild a squad that finished 15th in the Premier League last season
The official unveiling of Cunha is expected once all documentation is processed, with the player expected to join the squad for pre-season training later this month.
