Pallisa, Uganda: Bishop Simon Peter Oullo, the cleric supervisor of Good Shepherd Ministries International, Thursday formally declared his political ambition by picking nomination forms to contest in the NRM primaries for the Agule County parliamentary seat.
The bishop, who officially resigned from his position as headteacher of Bukedea Secondary School on May 30, 2025, picked the forms on the afternoon from the NRM party headquarters in Kyadondo, Kampala.
Shortly after, Oullo told DailyExpress that Agule County deserves a leader of integrity and unity to help the community transcend the political divisions that have long polarized the constituency.
“I am a professional secondary school teacher who has served in the education sector since qualifying from NTC Ngetta. I held the position of headteacher until I stepped down recently to answer the call of leadership,” Bishop Oullo said.
He expressed concern over the nature of political competition in Agule, accusing some opponents of waging smear campaigns and using abusive language to dismiss his aspirations.
“I don’t believe in personal attacks or branding politics as something evil, as some of my colleagues have done. Leadership is also a divine responsibility. In the Bible, Moses, Joshua, David, and Solomon were both religious and administrative leaders. Even today, the head of the Vatican, Pope Francis, is a political and spiritual leader,” he added.
Moses Angisa, Oullo’s campaign coordinator and former campaign head for Hon. Polycarp Ogwari, said he shifted his support because of the bishop’s proven service to the community.
“This man is already a blessing to Agule. He supports over 100 orphans, has lobbied for clean water projects, and brings a message of unity that is desperately needed,” Angisa stated.
Charles Opio, a resident of Bukedea Town Council, praised Oullo’s tenure at Bukedea SS, noting that the school saw a major transformation under his leadership.
“During his handover last Friday, it was emotional for all of us. He left the school with three vehicles, a Friesian cow farm, and increased student enrollment. Agule now has a true choice in this election,” said Opio.
