Arua Hill relegation caps off a disappointing FUFA Big League season

Arua, Uganda: Arua Hill Sports Club has officially been relegated from the FUFA Big League after failing to secure a win in their must-win home fixture against Busoga United FC on Sunday, June 8.

Arua Hill’s early lead through Victor Dickens Kilama in the 10th minute offered a glimmer of hope, but the advantage was squandered 20 minutes later when a goalkeeping error resulted in an own goal, allowing Busoga United to equalize.

Head Coach Allan Kabonge Kivewala had earlier described the match as “make or break,” but following the final whistle, he refrained from commenting, visibly frustrated by the outcome that sealed his team’s fate.

Supporters were left devastated. “I am not happy about what happened because our progress has just been cut short,” said Stephen Aboda, an ardent Arua Hill fan.

He also blamed the match officials for failing to add stoppage time. “The officiating team also cheated us because they did not add the additional minutes,” Aboda lamented.

Arua Hill now sits in 12th place on the league table with 29 points from 27 games, making it mathematically impossible to survive relegation regardless of their final game result away at Booma FC on June 21.

Busoga United, who sit 14th with 27 points from 26 matches, still have a fighting chance to survive the drop, with two matches left to play.

Black Power Boosts UPL Promotion Hopes

In Lira City, Black Power SC delivered a commanding 5-0 win over Ntugasaze FC to keep their promotion hopes alive. Baker Buyala and Elias Oonyu each bagged a brace, while Michael Siwu converted a penalty to complete a haul against the visitors.

Buyala opened the scoring in the 25th minute and netted again in the 55th. Oonyu found the back of the net in the 40th and 65th minutes, with Siwu’s penalty conversion coming in the 31st.

The win pushed Black Power to 4th place with 45 points, just one point behind second-placed Gaddafi FC, making the promotion race increasingly intense.

Elsewhere, Onduparaka FC settled for a 1-1 draw with Kiyinda Boys, while Paidha Black Angels suffered defeat against Kigezi Home Boyz in a result that further dented their campaign.
