Kampala, Uganda: A group of over 500 youths affiliated with the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) living abroad have declared full support for President Yoweri Museveni’s 2026 re-election bid, pledging to mobilize globally in defense of the party’s record and legacy.
The youths, based in the United States, Turkey, Germany, Rwanda, Sudan, and other countries, made the announcement during a mobilization meeting at the President’s Office in Kampala, organized by Ambassador Abbey Walusimbi, the Senior Presidential Advisor on Diaspora Affairs who also doubles as the Chairperson of the NRM Diaspora League.
Sylvia Kakyo Flower, a patron of the group and Head of Youth Affairs in the NRM Diaspora Independent Taskforce, said the team is committed to countering misinformation about the government and amplifying President Museveni’s achievements abroad.
Kakyo cited transformative initiatives like the Parish Development Model and Emyooga as programs that “speak directly to lifting ordinary Ugandans into the money economy.”
In his remarks, Ambassador Walusimbi tasked the delegates with spearheading global political mobilization under the banner of the NRM Diaspora Independent Taskforce, describing their role as critical in securing a decisive Museveni victory.
“We must show our unwavering support by being the first to endorse his candidacy and then mobilize others through the NRM Diaspora Independent Taskforce until victory is achieved,” he said, adding that loyalty, ideological clarity, and national unity must take precedence over sectarian or ethnic appeals.
He assured the youth of continued government support for diaspora-led investment projects and reintegration programs aimed at easing their return to Uganda.

Kakyo, who also chairs the USA chapter of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), emphasized that diaspora youths are well-positioned to defend the NRM’s legacy and help advance peace, stability, and socio-economic transformation.
“We are organized, skilled, and ideologically clear about our role. We believe in the President’s vision and are ready to stand on the frontline of political defense,” she said.
The group appealed to the government to lower taxes on imported goods and create pathways for diaspora-acquired expertise to be transferred to Ugandan youth. They argued that such measures would help stimulate job creation and boost innovation.
Janet Agaba, one of the members, urged the government to tap into diaspora skills for training, mentorship, and productivity enhancement programs across sectors. “We are a resource, ready to contribute meaningfully to Uganda’s development if given structured avenues,” she said.
