Kampala, Uganda: Gagamel boss Moses Ssali, popularly known as Bebe Cool, has categorically stated he will never collaborate musically with fellow artiste turned politician Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine, citing deep political differences.
Speaking during a media interview earlier this week, Bebe Cool said Bobi Wine’s transition from music into partisan politics permanently altered their relationship and created an ideological chasm he cannot overlook.
“I can’t do a collabo with Bobi Wine because politics blindfolded him. I work with people who think beyond, not like him,” Bebe Cool said, adding that while he encourages political participation, Bobi Wine’s brand of opposition activism is not one he subscribes to.
The two musicians, once seen as industry rivals, have had a rollercoaster relationship marked by intermittent personal jabs and fanbase clashes.
Tensions worsened after Bobi Wine’s political rise under the National Unity Platform (NUP), where he is now the party president and a prominent critic of President Yoweri Museveni’s government.
Bebe Cool, a self-declared supporter of the ruling NRM party, has since fashioned himself as a Museveni loyalist in both music and public commentary, actively participating in party campaigns and openly criticizing the opposition.
“I am an entertainer, not a rebel. Music should not be used as a tool to spread hate or incite instability,” he said, clearly referring to Bobi Wine’s political rhetoric.
Despite repeated public calls from fans for a musical reunion or unity between the two former friends, Bebe Cool remains unmoved, stressing that he stands for structured change, not populism or radical opposition politics.
