Kampala, Uganda: City lawyer and National Unity Platform (NUP) legislator Elias Luyimbaazi Nalukoola has described the nullification of his election as Member of Parliament for Kawempe North as a politically motivated move that exposed the hidden interests within government systems.
Speaking out publicly for the first time since the court ruling, Nalukoola said the decision to annul his victory was not just a personal lesson, but also a wake-up call for the people of Kawempe and Ugandans at large.
“What happened in Kawempe serves as a reminder to all Ugandans that such acts still exist. It’s up to the citizens to speak out and stand against them,” Hon. Nalukoola said.
His parliamentary seat was nullified last month following a court decision that ordered fresh elections for Kawempe North constituency. While he did not go into legal details, Nalukoola maintained that he was duly elected and did not commit any electoral offense.
“I know the people of Kawempe voted for me. I did nothing wrong. But in Uganda, anything can happen, especially when powerful people are involved,” he added.
Nalukoola called on citizens across the country to raise their voices against political injustice, saying it is the people’s voice that holds the most power.
