Kampala, Uganda: Kampala’s renowned political mobilizer, Mr Kizito Moses Nsubuga, has been officially nominated to contest for the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party flag in the upcoming Kampala Lord Mayor primaries.
Kizito, known for his grassroots mobilization and active role in President Museveni’s Kampala political structures, submitted his nomination forms on Friday, June 27, 2025, at the NRM Headquarters in Kampala, where the party’s Electoral Commission formally cleared him to participate in the primaries.
Flanked by a procession of chanting supporters, mostly youths, Kizito declared that his bid represents “a fresh vision to transform Kampala into a more inclusive and prosperous capital.”
He pledged to prioritize issues of service delivery, youth employment, streamlined revenue collection, and infrastructural development if entrusted with the flag and eventually elected as Lord Mayor.
“I thank the NRM leadership for granting me this opportunity and my supporters across Kampala for the confidence they have shown in me,” Kizito said shortly after receiving his nomination certificate.
He added, “We are going to run a disciplined campaign anchored on mobilizing, uniting, and listening to the ordinary people.”

If elected as the NRM flag bearer, Kizito is expected to face a highly competitive general election, including the incumbent Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago, who is now aligned with the newly formed People’s Front for Freedom (PFF), the National Unity Platform’s Eng. Ronald Balimwezo and Forum for Democratic Change’s Ibrahim Kasozi, among others.
NRM strategists see Kampala as a critical battleground that requires renewed efforts to reclaim the Lord Mayor seat, which has remained in opposition hands since the return of multiparty politics.
Party insiders say Kizito’s nomination is part of a broader strategy to consolidate NRM’s urban support base ahead of the 2026 general elections.
