In a poignant remembrance of his late wife, Hajjati Aliyinza Nabirye, Senior Presidential Assistant on Press and Mobilisation, Hajji Faruk Kirunda, has committed to honor the brave youth of Luuka district who risked their safety in a valiant attempt to save her life during a tragic accident last year.
The memorial service, marking one year since her passing, was held at Kirunda’s residence in Ntawo, Mukono Municipality, and served as both a tribute and a rallying call for community solidarity.
During the emotional ceremony, Kirunda praised the selflessness and bravery displayed by the youth who responded to the accident scene. “In a moment of crisis, these young individuals showcased incredible courage and humanity,” he stated. “Their actions went beyond financial consideration; they acted out of sheer compassion, and for that, my family and I are deeply grateful.”
In recognition of their extraordinary efforts, Kirunda made a passionate commitment to provide each of the youth involved with one-bedroom houses before Christmas 2025. This pledge not only serves as a token of gratitude but also as a vital contribution to the sustainability and well-being of the community.
Beyond this act of kindness, the Kirunda family is dedicated to improving local health infrastructure. During the memorial, it was announced that hospital beds would be donated to health facilities in the Luuka district, with each sub-county health center receiving five beds. This initiative aims to enhance the medical services available to the community and honor the legacy of Aliyinza, whose life was devoted to service and family.
The memorial service also witnessed significant announcements from government representatives. Minister of Health Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng revealed plans to upgrade Luuka Health Centre III, the facility where Aliyinza lost her life, to a Health Centre IV level. This upgrade is expected to bring improved healthcare services and resources to the region, including the announcement of an ambulance for the upgraded facility.
Dr. Aceng emphasized the importance of public service and humility, calling on politicians and community leaders to embody these values. She encouraged Aliyinza’s sister, who is gearing up to contest for the Luuka District Woman MP seat in the forthcoming 2026 elections, to uphold the family’s legacy of respect, dedication, and service to the people.
The service was a heartfelt gathering of leaders, family, and community members, uniting in a shared commitment to honor Aliyinza’s character and values. Religious leaders present took the opportunity to preach messages of unity, faith, and compassion, reinforcing the importance of community spirit in times of grief and loss.
Hajji Faruk Kirunda’s initiatives reflect a deep-rooted belief in recognizing and rewarding acts of courage within the community. His promise to the youth of Luuka not only serves as a means of acknowledging their bravery but also reinforces the idea that compassion and action can forge powerful bonds within society.
As the community moves forward from this memorial, both the pledges made by Kirunda and the government’s commitments signal a dedication to transforming grief into positive action—a meaningful legacy for Hajjati Aliyinza Nabirye.
