A Pass warns politicians over unauthorized use of his music during campaigns

Singer A Pass has distanced himself from any political affiliations, warning politicians to stop using his songs during campaigns.

Kampala, Uganda: Renowned Ugandan musician Alexander Bagonza, popularly known as A Pass, has issued a stern warning to politicians, especially in Northern Uganda, using his music as part of their campaign strategies without his consent.

In a statement shared on his social media platforms, A Pass clarified that he has not authorized any political actor to incorporate his songs into campaign events or promotional activities, and demanded that the practice stop immediately.

“It has come to my attention that some politicians in Northern Uganda are incorporating my music into their campaign strategy as a means of outreach to the community. I have not authorized any of them to do so,” he said.

The artist cautioned his supporters in the region to remain aware that any use of his music is being done independently by candidates seeking elective office.

“To my fans in Northern Uganda, please be aware that these individuals are acting on their own accord. As I gather more information, I would like to request that the politicians involved discontinue this practice.” A Pass added.

Political campaigns in Uganda often feature popular music to draw crowds and create an emotional connection with voters. However, A Pass is among several artists who have refused to let their work be linked to any political agenda, citing the divisive nature of politics and the risk of alienating fans.

The singer emphasized that no amount of social media criticism or bullying would make him change his position. “I stand by my word,” he affirmed.

Ugandan election campaigns have previously seen musicians clashing with candidates and parties over copyright, unpaid royalties, and reputation management. While some artists license their songs to politicians for a fee, others insist on complete neutrality.
