Zamora, Spain: Liverpool FC forward Diogo Jota Silva, 28, and his brother André Silva, 26, have been confirmed dead following a fatal car crash on the A‑52 near Palacios de Sanabria, Zamora, in the early hours of Thursday, July 3, 2025.

Spanish authorities confirmed the tragic passing of the duo in the accident, which involved a high‑end Lamborghini that veered off the road following a suspected tyre blowout during an overtaking maneuver, then caught fire.

Jota, who recently married Rute Cardoso on June 22, leaves behind three children. His brother Silva played professionally for the Portuguese second-division side Penafiel.

The Portuguese Football Federation expressed its grief in a statement and has called for a minute’s silence during the Women’s Euro match between Portugal and Spain.

Jota, signed by Liverpool in September 2020 from Wolverhampton Wanderers for more than £40 million, scored 65 goals in 182 appearances and was part of the team that recently secured the Premier League title. He earned 49 caps for Portugal, scoring 14 goals.

In a heartfelt tribute, former teammates and coaches described Jota as “a joyful person with infectious positivity” and “a team-first player”.

Liverpool FC is expected to issue an official statement when able.
