Magogo extends reign as FUFA President, pledges more football innovation

FUFA President Moses Magogo speaks to delegates after his re-election during the 101st FUFA General Assembly in Hoima.

Hoima, Uganda: Hon. Moses Hassim Magogo has been re-elected President of the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) for the 2025–2029 term, extending his leadership into a fourth consecutive tenure after going unopposed at the 101st FUFA Ordinary General Assembly held Saturday, July 05, at Hoima Resort Hotel.

Magogo, who first assumed the role in 2013, was elected by acclamation, a sign of his entrenched support among Uganda’s football fraternity.

“It is my great pleasure to congratulate you on the support you have given to football. Both internal and external stakeholders have played a significant role in shaping the trajectory of our sport in recent years. Success is what we all work for in life,” the FUFA President said in his acceptance speech.

Reflecting on a decade at the helm, Magogo, who is also Budiope East MP (NRM) described how Uganda’s football landscape has shifted under his stewardship.

“In 2013, certain things seemed impossible, but today they have become basic. Our success has been defined by the Know-How that we have acquired by training and experience, the hours we have committed to the game, the self and institutional discipline that we have exhibited, driven by our passion, hunger to succeed, and thereafter the Will of God.”

He credited the transformation in governance, competitions, and football business to what he called “bold innovations” that many initially doubted.

“We have introduced innovations and engineered changes that some thought were impossible or not a priority. The outcome has vindicated our efforts,” he noted.

Magogo’s re-election also secures continuity in FUFA’s leadership, with several Executive Committee members retaining their seats. Justus Mugisha stayed on as 1st Vice President, while Hon. Florence Nakiwala Kiyingi also retained her position as 3rd Vice President. Dr. Twaib Azar, a new entrant, was elected 2nd Vice President, replacing the late Darius Mugoye.

Other returning members include Rogers Mulindwa (Buganda), Ronnie Kalema (Referees), Rasoul Ariga (West Nile), Issa Magoola (Eastern), Agnes Mugena (North East), Rogers Byamukama (Kitara), Apollo Ahimbisibwe (Kampala), Dan Obote (Northern), and Frank Ankuzire (Western).

New faces on the Executive are Deo Mutabazi (UBSA) and Ronald Barente (BUL FC Chairman), while Abdul Ssekabira Lukooya makes a comeback after serving between 2017 and 2021.

Richard Ochom is among the few who did not return to the Committee.

Magogo promised that his next term will focus on consolidating FUFA’s achievements and sustaining the transformation of Ugandan football at all levels.
