Namutumba, Uganda: Ghetto youths in Namutumba District have applauded President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for fulfilling his pledge of Shs100 million in empowerment funds aimed at transforming youth livelihoods and supporting small-scale enterprises.
The announcement was confirmed on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, by Hajj Faruk Kirunda, the Special Presidential Assistant for Press and Mobilization and Deputy Presidential Spokesperson, during a meeting with youth leaders and members of the ghetto community in Namutumba.
Kirunda told the youths that the President had already delivered the funds to their account through Maj Gen Christopher Ddamulira, a move that excited local youth groups who described the gesture as a “true sign of government commitment to empowering the ghettos.”
The ecstatic youths vowed to deliver 100% of Namutumba votes to President Museveni and the NRM flag bearers in the upcoming 2026 general elections, saying the support fund demonstrates the President’s trust and commitment to their welfare.
“President Museveni may have lost Busoga in 2021, but we assure him that this time, he will win with the highest percentage. The ghetto is ready to deliver 100% of the votes,” one youth leader said.
They commended the President’s gesture as an example of government inclusion, saying it reflects his determination to reach the most marginalized youth communities.
Hajj Kirunda cautioned the beneficiaries against misuse of the funds and emphasized the need for financial literacy and project management training before investing.
“You need to understand how to use this money wisely. These are funds with a 6% annual interest rate, and the President intentionally made it low to accommodate all youth groups. Attend sensitization meetings and learn how to invest profitably,” Kirunda advised.
He encouraged them to focus on viable ventures such as agribusiness, manufacturing, and services that can generate sustainable income and expand job opportunities for others.
Police Calls for Discipline and Reform
SSP Ssenyonjo Abas, the Regional Police Commander for Busoga East, urged the youths to steer clear of criminal activities and instead channel their energy into productive economic ventures. “Use this opportunity to reform and prove that the ghetto youth can be agents of change. Invest the money well so that you attract more support in the future,” he said.
The meeting ended with a renewed commitment from the youth groups to mobilize more peers across Namutumba District to support the NRM government and its empowerment initiatives.
