Kampala, Uganda: The Minister of State for Higher Education, Hon John Chrysestom Muyingo, has called on Ugandans to embrace unity, peaceful political participation and the protection of national achievements as the country enters 2026.
In his official New Year message released on January 1, 2026, Muyingo thanked God for life and peace, and urged citizens to reflect on Uganda’s collective journey and shared aspirations.
“As we welcome the dawn of a new year, I extend my heartfelt greetings and best wishes to all Ugandans, young and old, men and women, wherever you are across our beautiful nation and beyond our borders,” Muyingo said.
Reflecting on Uganda’s progress, the minister described the country’s journey as one defined by resilience and hard work across communities. “Uganda’s story is one of hope, resilience and progress. Across every district and community, our people continue to work hard, dream big, and lift one another in the true Ugandan spirit of solidarity,” he said.
With 2026 set to be a major election year, Muyingo appealed for calm, responsibility and national unity during the electoral process.
“This is an important year for our democracy as we prepare once again to go to the polls. I urge all Ugandans to participate peacefully and responsibly,” he said, adding that citizens should “value dialogue over confrontation, understanding over division, and the spirit of nation-building above all else.”
Muyingo also expressed confidence in the leadership of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), crediting the government for stability and development.
“Under his stewardship, Uganda has made remarkable progress in ensuring stability, expanding access to education, modernising infrastructure and promoting economic empowerment,” Muyingo said.
He said the NRM’s current emphasis on Protecting the Gains reflects a commitment to safeguarding peace and deepening socio-economic transformation.
“We have come a long way, and together, we must protect the gains we have made—by nurturing discipline, strengthening our institutions, empowering our youth and building an economy that serves every Ugandan family,” he said.
The minister stressed that education remains central to Uganda’s future, pledging continued government focus on access, quality and relevance. “Education remains central to these efforts, as it is through learning that individuals and communities find the power to shape a better future,” Muyingo said.
