Politicians told to deliver results, not attack rivals

Busoga Kingdom First Deputy Prime Minister Muhamadi Lubega Kisambira has urged politicians to focus on service delivery and development instead of attacking rivals, as LUPA reviewed its achievements in Luuka District.

Busoga Kingdom 1st Deputy Prime Minister, Dr. Al-hajj Muhamadi Lubega Kisambira addresses members during the Luuka Patriots Association end-of-year gathering at Luuka District headquarters.

Luuka, Uganda: The First Deputy Prime Minister of Busoga Kingdom, Dr. Al-hajj Muhamadi Lubega Kisambira, has urged politicians to focus on delivering tangible benefits to the people rather than attacking those who have performed for their electorates.

Dr. Lubega, who also doubles as Chairperson of the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council, made the remarks during the end-of-year party for the Luuka Patriots Association (LUPA) held at the Luuka District headquarters.

Addressing members and guests, Dr. Lubega, the LUPA patron, said the coming year should be defined by productivity and development, not politicking and personal attacks.

“We must ensure that 2026 is for doing more. Our target is to perform better each year than the previous one, and this is very possible, including forming the SACCO that has been proposed,” Dr. Lubega said, adding that LUPA’s growth depends on the choice of good and responsible leaders.

He encouraged members to support government programmes and highlighted LUPA’s achievements since its formation, noting that the association started as a WhatsApp group but has since delivered visible development projects.

Among the projects cited were the construction of eight double self-contained staff quarters for health workers at Kiyunga Health Centre IV, distribution of welding machines to youths in Luuka town councils, provision of bursaries to vulnerable children, and support to education and religious institutions.

Responding to concerns raised by residents over alleged harassment by Election Special Police Constables, Dr. Lubega called on the Luuka District Police leadership to intervene and restore professionalism.

“It is not right to beat people at night. These officers were recruited to keep peace, not to take it away. I ask the DPC to intervene and bring these constables to order because they are our children. However, I also warn the public against provoking police officers,” he said.

Reflecting on the political season ahead, Dr. Lubega urged citizens to vote wisely in 2026, reminding them that their votes matter and that the gains achieved must be protected.

The Chairperson of LUPA, Isanga Richard Kawoowo, commended Dr. Lubega for personally supporting the association’s development initiatives.

He said LUPA’s projects, including staff quarters at Kiyunga Health Centre IV, distribution of welding machines and banana suckers, bursaries for school-going children, and support to education and faith-based institutions—have had a tangible impact on the district.

Isanga appealed to professionals originating from Luuka District but living elsewhere to return and support development at home.

“Luuka has produced professors, doctors, engineers, specialists and senior civil servants. We ask them to remember home and support the district, just like Dr. Lubega has done by supporting underprivileged children to access education,” he said.

He added that LUPA plans to transition into a SACCO and, in 2026, roll out career guidance programmes in schools as well as establish a data bank of Luuka graduates to help link them to employment opportunities.

Several political leaders, including NRM Woman MP flag bearer Annet Nabirye and Luuka District Chairperson Wakaze Simon, both members of the association, attended the event.

Wakaze praised LUPA’s work and said end-of-year accountability, especially by leaders and politicians, is vital for transparency and trust.

Addressing the gathering, Nabirye urged residents to support the NRM and President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, citing development gains achieved under his leadership.

“I ask you to support and vote for President Museveni. When you entrust me with leadership, I will lobby for Luuka District. On January 15, 2026, kindly vote for me and the President,” Nabirye said, while also appealing to residents living outside the district to contribute to local development.
