Kamuli, Uganda: Four people were killed instantly on Friday evening after a sugarcane-laden Fuso Fighter truck overturned and crushed a motorcycle along the Kamuli–Namasagali Road in a horrific crash that has reignited concerns over road safety involving heavy trucks.
The fatal accident occurred at around 5:50 PM on April 10, 2026, in Bulunda Village, when the truck, registration number UAM 983F, lost control and toppled onto a Bajaj Boxer motorcycle (UDL 411N), killing all occupants on the spot.
The deceased have been identified as Mudumba Grace, the motorcycle rider, Nanzala Lydia, 38, a resident of Naibowa, Butansi Sub-county, Makayi Stephen, 40 and Balinaine Charles, 42, a resident of Busiba Cell, Southern Division, Kamuli Municipality
Police say the victims were buried under the truck and its heavy sugarcane cargo, leaving them with no chance of survival.
According to preliminary police findings, both the Fuso truck and the motorcycle were travelling in the same direction, from Namasagali towards Kamuli.
Trouble began when a Sinotruck lorry approached from the opposite direction. In an attempt to avoid a head-on collision, the Fuso driver swerved sharply to the right, lost control, and overturned.

The truck, along with its sugarcane load, fell directly onto the motorcycle and its passengers.
Busoga North Police Spokesperson SSP Samson Lubega confirmed that the truck driver fled the scene immediately after the crash.
“Inquiries are ongoing. Police are appealing to anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of the fleeing Fuso driver to come forward to Kamuli CPS or the nearest police station,” Lubega said.
“Police strongly caution all drivers, especially those operating heavy goods vehicles, against dangerous evasive maneuvers such as sudden swerving, which can lead to loss of control, overturning, and fatal consequences for other road users,” he warned.
The crash adds to Uganda’s persistent road safety crisis.
According to the Uganda Police Annual Crime Report 2025, road crashes remain among the leading causes of death, with reckless driving, poor judgment, and loss of control cited as major contributors.
