Wakiso, Uganda: Police in Wakiso District have arrested three suspects and recovered stolen property following a break-in at a Seventh-day Adventist church, in a case that highlights rising theft targeting places of worship.
According to Police Spokesperson Rusoke Kituuma, unknown assailants broke into Kavumba SDA Church in Wakiso Town Council on the night of April 11, 2026, making off with a music amplifier and mixer.
“Following swift action, our officers successfully recovered the stolen items from a nearby house, along with additional property that had earlier been stolen from a mosque,” Kituuma said during the weekly police briefing at Naguru.
Police identified the suspects as Ssekitooleko Ronald, Wabwire, and Robert, who are currently in custody and assisting with investigations.
The recovery of items linked to both a church and a mosque has raised concern among security agencies over what appears to be a pattern of criminals targeting places of worship.

Authorities say such institutions are increasingly vulnerable due to limited security measures, particularly at night.
Police have now urged religious leaders to strengthen security around worship centres by deploying guards, improving lighting, and installing surveillance systems such as CCTV cameras.
“Criminals are increasingly targeting both churches and mosques, making vigilance and proactive security essential,” Kituuma warned.
According to the Uganda Police Annual Crime Report 2025, burglary and theft cases remain among the most common offences, with places of worship and community institutions increasingly becoming soft targets due to inadequate security infrastructure.
Kituuma said investigations are ongoing to establish whether the suspects are part of a larger criminal network operating in Wakiso and surrounding areas.
