Kasangati, Wakiso: Police in Kasangati have arrested three suspects linked to a string of motor vehicle thefts, following a successful canine-led operation that traced stolen car parts to a local garage.
The suspects have been identified as Katongole Richard, Matovu Amon, and Musaasizi Peter.
According to a Tuesday evening police statement, the breakthrough followed an incident reported in the early hours of April 10, 2026, when unknown individuals allegedly jumped over a fence and vandalised a motor vehicle belonging to a resident identified as Otto N., stealing various parts.
The victim reported the case at Canan Police Post at around 7:00 am, prompting officers to deploy a canine unit to the scene.
“In the early hours of 10th April 2026, at about 0300 hours, unknown individuals reportedly jumped over the fence of Otto N. and vandalised his motor vehicle, making away with parts. At around 0700 hours, the victim reported the incident at Canan Police Post and requested for canine support,” the statement posted via the police’s official X account reads.

Police dog T/P 266 Navara was introduced and successfully picked up a scent, which it tracked for approximately 400 metres, leading officers directly to one of the suspects.
“The tracking led officers to Matovu Amon and into a garage, where Katongole Richard was found. Upon questioning, Katongole revealed that the garage belonged to Musaasizi Peter,” police said.
A search of the premises led to the recovery of multiple suspected stolen items, including side mirrors and other motor vehicle parts believed to have been taken from different vehicles in the area.
Police say the recovered items are now being analysed to establish their rightful owners.
The three suspects are currently in police custody as investigations continue, with authorities working to determine whether the group is linked to a wider network targeting parked vehicles.
Police have urged motorists to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity, especially during night hours when such crimes are most prevalent.
