Kawempe, Kampala, Uganda: A 31-year-old businesswoman and wife to a close aide of Robert Kyagulanyi has been charged with unlawfully using a SIM card registered in another person’s name in a case that has drawn public scrutiny.
Natabi Fauzia, wife to Don Sherrif, a personal assistant to the National Unity Platform (NUP) leader, was charged on April 17, 2026, at Kawempe Police Station under CRB 388/2026.
According to charge documents, Fauzia is accused of contravening Regulation 29(1) of the Interception of Communications Regulations, 2023.
Prosecution alleges that between January and March 2026, within Kawempe Division, she used a SIM card registered under another individual’s identity to make repeated WhatsApp calls. The calls were allegedly used to threaten and harass one Nagasha Ziffah, with the intent to cause fear.
Fauzia was produced before Kawempe Chief Magistrate’s Court on Monday, following 35 days in detention, according to her lawyers.
Her legal team, led by Elotu Jonathan, had earlier filed a habeas corpus application challenging her prolonged detention.

Court remanded her to Kasangati Prisons until May 5, 2026, when she is expected to reappear.
The case has attracted significant public interest, partly due to Fauzia’s connection to opposition circles and the nature of the charges.
“Laughably, she was charged with using a phone to threaten a stranger, just a few hours after regime officials filed affidavits swearing that they neither had her in their custody nor knew where she was!” the opposition NUP President, Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine, said on Saturday.
“Relatedly, comrade ‘Gen. Blue Tick’ who was abducted on 9th April as she headed for the vigil of comrade Waiswa Mufumbiro’s wife in Mutungo is still missing. The regime continues to remain silent about her whereabouts,” he added.
Altogether, Bobi Wine says, “the cases of these two ladies expose a consistent pattern of abductions and denials of our comrades that are intended to silence the regime’s opponents. We must never give up the fight until we’re all free!”
Observers have raised questions about aspects of the charge sheet, including how the offence has been framed and details contained in the particulars.
