Bushenyi, Uganda: Police in the Greater Bushenyi Region is holding in custody seven suspects in connection with the brutal killing of a 57-year-old businessman whose burnt and dismembered body was recovered from a lodge in Ishaka Division.
The deceased has been identified as Asiimwe Abias, a resident of Kashenyi Ward in Bushenyi District.
According to Regional Police spokesperson SP Apollo Tayebwa, Asiimwe was last seen on April 18, 2026, at Kashenyi Trading Centre before heading to a nearby lodge.
“It is alleged that on 18th April 2026, the deceased was last seen at Kashenyi Trading Centre before proceeding to a nearby lodge. He did not return, prompting his relatives to report his disappearance to police the following day,” SP Tayebwa said.
Police, working jointly with local residents, launched a search operation that led to the grim discovery. “A search was conducted which led to the recovery of a burnt and dismembered body believed to be that of the deceased from the lodge premises, in a room rented by the prime suspect,” Tayebwa revealed.

The shocking nature of the killing has sent fear across the community, with residents calling for swift justice.
Tayebwa confirmed that seven individuals, including the prime suspect, are currently in custody to assist with investigations.
“Seven suspects, including the prime suspect, have been arrested to assist with ongoing investigations,” he noted, adding that the crime scene was thoroughly examined and key exhibits recovered to support the case.
By press time, the remains had been transported to Kitagata Hospital Mortuary for a postmortem examination as investigations continue.
Police have since condemned the act, assuring the public of justice. “The Uganda Police Force strongly condemns such acts of violence and assures the public that all those involved will be brought to justice,” Tayebwa said.
The incident adds to growing concern over violent crimes across the country. According to the Uganda Police Annual Crime Report 2025, cases of murder and aggravated assault remain among the most serious threats to public safety, with thousands of violent crime incidents recorded nationwide.
