The Grade 10 examinations mark a critical transition in the CBSE system, determining progression to senior secondary education and subject specialisation.

The CBSE curriculum, administered by India’s Central Board of Secondary Education, is one of several international education systems offered in Uganda alongside Cambridge and the International Baccalaureate (IB). While less widely adopted, it provides a standardised global benchmark through external assessment.
Harriet Ssenkali, Commissioner for Private Schools and Institutions at the Ministry of Education, noted that despite being internationally administered, such curricula remain subject to local oversight.
“Although examination bodies like CBSE and Cambridge are based in their respective countries, schools offering these curricula in Uganda are regulated locally through licensing, inspection and supervision,” she said.
She added that all international curricula must first be approved by the National Curriculum Development Centre before implementation, while acknowledging that some institutions still operate without full compliance.
Ssenkali further revealed that Uganda is developing a national qualifications framework to align foreign academic certifications with the local education system.
Although CBSE results are not directly comparable to Uganda’s national examinations, scores above 90 percent are widely regarded as distinctions within the system.
Delhi Public School International Kampala is a private co-educational day school in Naguru, Kampala, offering the Indian Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) curriculum from early years to Grade XII. The school serves both expatriate and local families seeking an Indian-based, English-medium education in Uganda.
