Namisindwa, Uganda: Namisindwa District Council has approved a Shs47.9 billion budget for the 2026/2027 financial year, with education taking the largest share as leaders push to strengthen service delivery.
The budget was passed on Wednesday during the council’s final sitting held at the district headquarters.
Presenting the estimates, Secretary for Social Services Martha Muyama Wakweika, who also acted as Secretary for Finance and Administration, said the education sector received Shs19.9 billion, followed by public administration with Shs12 billion and health with Shs9 billion.
Other sectors, including roads and production, also received allocations aimed at supporting local economic growth and infrastructure development.
However, Wakweika raised concern over what she described as rigidity among technical staff, accusing some officials of frustrating implementation of council programmes.

District Speaker Dorothy Walukawu commended councillors for their cooperation during her tenure and urged incoming leaders to prioritise recruitment, improve service delivery, and strengthen institutional systems.
She noted that the outgoing council had produced key leaders, including LC5 Chairperson-elect Emma Bwayo and Namisindwa County MP Metrine Musufa.
Bwayo pledged to enforce accountability and ensure value for money in the utilisation of public resources.
“We are going to establish clear systems and strengthen oversight to ensure that every shilling delivers impact to the people,” he said, calling for cooperation from all stakeholders as the new leadership takes charge.
The budget approval marks a critical step in the district’s planning cycle, setting priorities for service delivery, infrastructure, and socio-economic development in the upcoming financial year.
