Kampala, Uganda: A group of National Resistance Movement (NRM) mobilizers from Kampala’s five divisions have petitioned the Office of the National Chairman (ONC) in Kyambogo over what they described as exclusion from preparations for the upcoming swearing-in ceremony of President-elect Yoweri Museveni.
The mobilizers, who Friday paid a courtesy visit to the office headed by Hadijah Namyalo Uzeiye, expressed frustration over not being contacted or directly involved in the organization of the May 12 inauguration ceremony at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds.
According to the delegation, they actively participated in grassroots mobilization campaigns from the early days of the “TovaKuMain” campaign up to the conclusion of the 2026 elections and expected recognition during the swearing-in preparations.
The group reportedly appealed for inclusion in mobilization activities and requested an opportunity to meet President Museveni, arguing that they should not be sidelined “at the time of reaping” after participating in door-to-door vote hunting campaigns.
Responding to the concerns, Namyalo thanked the mobilizers for what she described as loyalty and commitment to President Museveni and the ruling NRM party.
She clarified that the inauguration arrangements are currently being handled by a National Organizing Committee and not directly by the ONC.
According to Namyalo, mobilizers may still benefit through the allocation framework under which each district is expected to send 50 representatives to the ceremony.
She further revealed that she had already briefed President Museveni about the concerns raised by mobilizers. “The President advised that mobilization funds should be sourced from the Secretariat where the budget is held because no mobilization budget was allocated to ONC,” Namyalo explained.
The ONC boss pledged to engage relevant offices and do everything within her ability to ensure mobilizers are incorporated into the arrangements.
She also appealed for calm and patience among supporters, assuring them that their contributions to the ruling party’s electoral victory had not been forgotten.
“The President does not forget his people and your efforts will be recognized in due time,” she told the group.
Swearing-In Preparations in high gear
Preparations for Museveni’s swearing-in ceremony are already in advanced stages, with government officials indicating that more than 30 foreign delegations and heads of state are expected to attend the event at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds.
The ceremony will officially usher Museveni into another term following his 71.6% victory in the 2026 general elections.
