Kampala, Uganda: Parliament on Thursday swore in another 170 Members of Parliament-elect as the induction of Uganda’s 12th Legislature entered its second day, bringing the total number of legislators already sworn in to 354.
The swearing-in ceremony at Parliament Buildings attracted relatives, supporters, political leaders and cultural performers as legislators officially began their 2026–2031 parliamentary term.
Among the legislators sworn in on Thursday was Hon Mafabi Asha Nabulo, the newly elected Woman MP for Sironko District who took her oath at exactly 1:30 pm on the afternoon amid cheers from family members and friends.
Speaking to the media shortly after her oath, Nabulo pledged to prioritise the interests of Sironko and the wider Bugisu sub-region during her term in Parliament. “This position is not my position. It is a position for the people. I am simply their mouthpiece to deliver their grievances,” she said.
The first-time legislator said her focus would be ensuring that Sironko’s interests are represented whenever national matters are discussed and resources allocated. “To make sure that when they are dividing the national cake, Sironko and Bugisu as a whole get a share,” she added.
Hon Nabulo also vowed to remain people-centred and responsive to community priorities, saying she had spent years engaging residents and understanding their challenges before seeking office.
“I have been in the field for the past seven years understanding the issues of the people of Sironko and understanding what they need me to do,” she said. “You can see the problem, but you cannot be the one to suggest a solution. They suggest, and we polish it if there is a need to polish it.”

Thursday’s session continued the festive atmosphere witnessed on the opening day, with MPs-elect taking photographs with supporters and speaking about their legislative priorities ranging from service delivery and wealth creation to education, healthcare and infrastructure.
The exercise, which started on Wednesday with 184 MPs taking their oaths, is expected to conclude on Friday ahead of the official opening of the 12th Parliament later this month.
