Kampala, Uganda: Kawempe Muslim Women Football Club were crowned champions of the 2025/26 Finance Trust Bank FUFA Women Super League on Sunday after defeating Olila High School Women FC 3-1 in a dramatic final-day showdown.

The victory at Valley Grounds saw the Valley Warriors finish top of the table with 52 points, edging rivals She Corporate FC by a single point after the latter were held to a goalless draw by She Maroons FC.

Both sides entered the decisive final day knowing the title race would go down to the wire, but it was Kawempe Muslim who held their nerve to secure a historic sixth league crown.

Jovia Nakagolo, veteran striker Agnes Nabukenya and Latifah Nakasi were all on target for Kawempe Muslim, while Mary Lotyang scored the consolation goal for Olila High School WFC.

Nakagolo handed Kawempe an early lead after 11 minutes before Olila silenced the home crowd with an equaliser midway through the first half.

However, experienced forward Nabukenya restored Kawempe’s advantage in the 33rd minute to send the hosts into halftime leading 2-1.

With tensions rising late in the game, Nakasi calmly converted from the penalty spot with five minutes remaining to seal the victory and spark celebrations among the home fans.

The triumph also saw Kawempe Muslim make league history after becoming the first club to finish a FUFA Women Super League season with 52 points.

The champions enjoyed a dominant campaign, winning 16 of their 22 matches, drawing twice and suffering only two defeats all season.

Kawempe also ended the campaign as the league’s top-scoring side with 43 goals while boasting the best defensive record after conceding just 13 goals.

Ironically, both of their defeats this season came against Makerere University WFC, who completed a rare home-and-away double over the eventual champions.

Nakasi’s decisive penalty also carried individual significance after she finished the season as joint top scorer alongside She Corporate FC striker Jesca Namanda, with both forwards ending the campaign on 15 goals.

Despite missing out on the title, Namanda was named the league’s Most Valuable Player of the Season, while She Corporate goalkeeper Molly Naava claimed the Best Goalkeeper award following another outstanding campaign.

Kawempe Muslim will now shift attention to continental football after securing qualification for the CAF Women’s Champions League CECAFA qualifiers later this year.

At the bottom of the table, Olila High School WFC and Asubo Ladies FC were relegated and will compete in the FUFA Women Elite League next season.
