Kadiba, Uganda: SC Villa have reached the Stanbic Uganda Cup final for the first time in 11 years after defeating URA FC 1-0 on Saturday evening at the FUFA Stadium, Kadiba.

The record league champions progressed with a comfortable 3-0 aggregate victory following their impressive first-leg win earlier in the week.

URA defender James Begisa endured a difficult evening after scoring an own goal in the first half while attempting to block Ibrahim Kasinde’s dangerous attack.

The goal ultimately proved enough for SC Villa, who produced another disciplined defensive display to deny the Tax Collectors any realistic route back into the contest.

Although the match lacked many clear-cut chances, Villa remained organised throughout and comfortably protected both their lead on the night and aggregate advantage until the final whistle.

Their return to the final marks another major milestone in what has been an encouraging resurgence for the club in recent seasons.

SC Villa will now face Kitara FC in the final after the Royals dramatically eliminated defending champions Vipers SC on the away goals rule on Friday night at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.

Kitara advanced after securing a 1-1 draw away to Vipers, having held the Venoms to a goalless draw in the first leg in Hoima.

The visitors stunned the home crowd when Gadafi Wahab fired Kitara into the lead in the first half following a swift counterattack.

Vipers pushed hard for a response and eventually levelled through Karim Watambala, who converted a controversial second-half penalty awarded by referee George Olemu.

The decision sparked protests from Kitara players and officials after television replays appeared to show minimal or no contact on Yunus Sentamu inside the penalty area.

Despite late pressure from the hosts, Kitara defended resolutely to preserve the aggregate draw and advance on away goals.

The Royals will now contest their second Uganda Cup final in three seasons as they continue pursuing another historic trophy.

The final now sets up an intriguing showdown between Uganda’s most successful club SC Villa and an ambitious Kitara side seeking to further establish themselves among the country’s elite teams.
