Apac, Uganda: Apac District leadership has officially sworn in a new board for Apac General Hospital in a move aimed at strengthening governance, accountability and healthcare service delivery at one of northern Uganda’s key public health facilities.

The swearing-in ceremony, held on Monday at the hospital boardroom and presided over by the Office of the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), saw Abwang David, Konga Margaret, Loote Prassede and Abonog Robert formally assume office as members of the hospital board.

The new board is expected to oversee the hospital’s management and strategic direction amid growing pressure on public health institutions to improve efficiency and patient care.

Speaking during the ceremony, Ms Janet Odongo Akech, the Principal Assistant Secretary in the Office of the Chief Administrative Officer, congratulated the newly appointed members and urged them to serve with integrity, professionalism and transparency.

“Hospital boards are the backbone of effective healthcare delivery. Your leadership is critical in ensuring accountability, proper management of public resources and improved service delivery for the people of Apac and surrounding communities,” Ms Odongo said.

She further emphasized the importance of teamwork and collaboration between the board, hospital administration, district leadership and development partners.

“Healthcare challenges are growing, and it will take teamwork and dedication to ensure the hospital meets the rising needs of the population,” she added.

Hospital optimistic about reforms

Apac General Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr James Okullo welcomed the new board members, expressing optimism that their leadership would strengthen governance and improve patient care at the facility.

“We are optimistic that the board’s leadership will strengthen governance, improve service delivery and ensure that Apac General Hospital remains responsive to our patients’ needs,” Dr Okullo said.

The board members also pledged to work diligently to improve healthcare services and address existing challenges affecting the hospital.

Abwang David described the appointment as an honour and promised to support the hospital’s mission of delivering quality healthcare.

“We are honoured by this appointment and commit to supporting the hospital’s mission, promoting accountability and ensuring that our community receives quality healthcare services,” he said.

Konga Margaret noted that the board would focus on strengthening collaboration with management to improve services for patients.

“Our priority will be to work alongside the hospital management to address existing gaps and enhance service delivery for all patients,” she said.

Loote Prassede pledged to uphold professionalism and transparency in all board decisions.

“We understand the trust placed in us, and we will ensure transparency and professionalism in all our decisions,” she said.

Abonog Robert said the appointment provided an opportunity to positively contribute to the wellbeing of the community.

“This is a chance to contribute positively to the health of our community, and we will take this responsibility seriously,” he said.

Expectations high

District leaders and stakeholders expressed optimism that the newly sworn-in board would help drive reforms, improve oversight and strengthen accountability at the hospital.

The development comes at a time when public health institutions across the country continue to face increasing demand for improved healthcare services, better supervision and enhanced patient care systems.
