Kampala, Uganda: Police have arrested two more suspects in connection with the theft of laptop computers belonging to the Bank of Uganda, bringing the total number of suspects in custody to four as investigations into the high-profile break-in continue.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson, ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, all six laptops stolen from Bank of Uganda offices along Kampala Road have now been recovered.
“We would like to inform the general public that investigations into the theft of laptop computers belonging to @BOU_Official are progressing steadily,” Owoyesigyire said on Wednesday
The grand theft occurred during the night of May 3, 2026, when unknown individuals reportedly broke into the central bank offices and stole six laptop computers in an incident that triggered intense investigations by security agencies.
Police had earlier arrested two suspects and recovered two of the stolen laptops before fresh investigations led to the arrest of two additional suspects and the recovery of the remaining four devices.
“Following the earlier arrest of two suspects and the recovery of two of the stolen laptops, police conducted rigorous investigations which led to the arrest of two additional suspects, bringing the total number of suspects in custody to four,” said Owoyesigyire.
“The additional arrests also led to the recovery of four more laptop computers. All six stolen laptops have now been recovered and are being held as exhibits,” he added.
Owoyesigyire identified the custody suspects as Kule Boaz Micheal, Kabuya Ramathan alias Rama, Lubangakene Isaac Izoo, and Oedo Jorem Jude, all of whom are expected to appear before the Buganda Road Chief Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, May 20, upon completion of police procedures.
“They will face charges of office breaking, theft, receiving stolen property, and retaining stolen property.,” Owoyesigyire said.
The theft had raised concerns over security at one of the country’s most sensitive financial institutions, with investigators moving swiftly to trace the missing equipment and identify individuals involved in the operation.
Authorities have not yet disclosed whether the recovered laptops contained sensitive institutional data or whether additional suspects are still being pursued.
