KIBOGA, Uganda: The Rotary Club of Kiboga has pledged closer cooperation with the African Institute for Biodiversity and Sustainability (AIBIS) in promoting sustainable agriculture, environmental conservation and community empowerment initiatives.

The commitment was made during a visit by Rotary Club of Kiboga leaders to the AIBIS offices on Monday, where the incoming club president, Mr Ambrose Agaba, hailed the organisation for its growing impact in environmental protection and agroecology.

Agaba said the club was impressed by AIBIS’s work and was eager to establish a long-term working relationship anchored on shared values of sustainability and environmental stewardship.

“The seventh and final area of focus for Rotary International is environmental protection. We have been closely following AIBIS’s work, and we are convinced that your approach perfectly aligns with our own environmental protection and conservation values and priorities,” Agaba said.

The renewed partnership discussions follow the successful Rotary Northern Mega Fellowship hosted at the AIBIS EcoPark in Kigoma Ward, Masodde-Kalagi Town Council in Kyankwanzi District in March this year.

The fellowship attracted nearly 200 Rotarians, Rotaractors and friends of Rotary from Northern Uganda, Bunyoro, West Nile, Acholi and Lango sub-regions for networking, learning and community engagement activities.

During the event, participants toured the AIBIS agroecology demonstration farm, took part in guided nature walks and interacted with local communities engaged in sustainable farming and environmental conservation.

The visitors also purchased various organic products prepared by AIBIS members, including beans, pumpkin seeds, honey, medicinal herbs and tree seedlings, an initiative that organisers said boosted local community morale and incomes.

“Our visit to the AIBIS EcoPark was a definitive highlight of our Mega Fellowship. Our entire team deeply appreciated the experience, and the insights gained will directly inform our upcoming decisions and strategic actions within our environmental protection segment,” Agaba added.

He noted that the positive experience convinced the Rotary Club of Kiboga to pursue continued collaboration with AIBIS on environmental awareness, conservation and sustainable livelihood projects.

AIBIS Executive Director Allan Kalangi welcomed the partnership initiative, describing collaboration as essential in addressing growing environmental and climate challenges.

“Environmental protection demands a concerted, collective effort. Organizations like ours on the frontlines require strong collaboration and strategic synergies to accelerate our impact,” Kalangi said.

He added that support from organisations such as Rotary not only strengthens environmental campaigns but also motivates communities to embrace agroecological production and conservation practices.

Kalangi further noted that proceeds from organic product sales during the fellowship directly encouraged local farmers and AIBIS members to expand environmentally friendly production methods.

Since its launch in January 2026, the AIBIS EcoPark has steadily emerged as a key destination for agritourism, environmental education and biodiversity conservation activities, attracting students, researchers, environmentalists and nature enthusiasts from across the country.
