Kampala, Uganda: The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) National Treasurer, Ambassador Barbara Nekesa Oundo, has directed party structures across the country to shift focus from political mobilisation to economic mobilisation, saying the party must now concentrate on supporting government programmes and improving livelihoods following the conclusion of the 2026 elections.
Amb Nekesa made the remarks during a high-level coordination meeting with NRM district, sub-county and parish chairpersons at the party headquarters in Kampala.
Addressing the gathering, she said the period of intensive political campaigning had ended and that party leaders should now dedicate their efforts to driving socio-economic transformation at the grassroots.
“Political mobilisation is over. We must now turn to economic mobilisation to provide sustainable support for our Government,” she said.
Focus on Parish Development Model
As part of the new directive, Nekesa instructed NRM parish chairpersons to compile comprehensive reports on the implementation and performance of the Parish Development Model (PDM) within their respective areas.
She said the reports should be submitted to constituency chairpersons, who are Members of Parliament, as well as NRM district offices for review and follow-up action.
The move is expected to strengthen monitoring of one of government’s flagship poverty alleviation programmes and improve accountability at the grassroots level.

Nekesa also tasked parish chairpersons with compiling detailed reports on the status and performance of NRM Village LC1 flag bearers.
According to party officials, the exercise is intended to strengthen grassroots structures and enhance coordination between party leaders and communities.
Support Newly Sworn-In MPs
The NRM Treasurer further urged party members and local leaders to rally behind newly sworn-in Members of Parliament to enable them effectively deliver services to their constituents.
“Support your just sworn-in MPs to serve the people better. This will give them and the party an opportunity to be re-elected in 2031,” she said.
She emphasised that the party’s future electoral success will depend largely on how effectively leaders implement government programmes and respond to the needs of citizens during the current term.

Political observers view the directive as part of the NRM’s broader post-election strategy aimed at consolidating support through service delivery, wealth creation and implementation of government programmes.
The renewed emphasis on economic mobilisation aligns with government priorities such as the Parish Development Model, Emyooga, wealth creation initiatives and other interventions intended to improve household incomes.
Party officials expect the directives issued during the meeting to cascade through NRM structures nationwide, with increased monitoring of programme implementation and grassroots leadership performance.
The meeting comes just weeks after the swearing-in of Members of Parliament and the formation of a new Cabinet, marking the beginning of a fresh political term focused on implementation of the government’s socio-economic agenda.
