Kampala, Uganda: Veteran media personality and standup comedian Allan Mujuni, popularly known as Amooti Omubalanguzi, has reportedly been dismissed from Beat FM, a sister radio to Capital FM Uganda, after serving at the station for 18 years, bringing to a close one of the longest-running careers on Uganda’s contemporary radio scene.

The celebrated presenter was reportedly relieved of his duties following a series of warnings allegedly issued over several years regarding absenteeism and failure to report for assigned duties consistently.

The development marks the end of an era for listeners who have associated Amooti’s voice, humour and unique storytelling style with Beat FM for nearly two decades.

Throughout his tenure at Beat FM, Amooti remained a key figure in the station’s entertainment programming, contributing to its appeal among urban audiences while simultaneously maintaining a successful career on the comedy stage.

The reported dismissal has sparked widespread discussion on social media, with many listeners expressing shock that a broadcaster who spent nearly two decades at the station could depart under such circumstances.

Beyond radio, Amooti is widely regarded as one of the pioneers of Uganda’s modern comedy industry. For more than 25 years, he has built a reputation as a household entertainer whose career spans radio, stage comedy, television appearances, event hosting, and social commentary. His trademark satirical character “Omubalanguzi” helped establish him among Uganda’s most recognizable comedians and entertainers.

His influence extends beyond comedy. Over the years, Amooti became one of the most familiar voices on Ugandan airwaves, using radio as a platform to blend humour with discussions on social and everyday issues. His ability to connect with audiences across different generations earned him a loyal following and made him a sought-after master of ceremonies at public and corporate events.

Amooti is widely credited among the entertainers who helped shape Uganda’s comedy landscape during its formative years, alongside several other pioneers who transformed stand-up comedy into a mainstream entertainment industry.

By press time, neither Amooti nor Beat FM management had issued an official public statement regarding the reports.

For many Ugandans, however, the story transcends a workplace departure. It represents the end of a significant chapter in the career of a broadcaster and comedian whose voice, humour and personality have been part of Uganda’s media and entertainment landscape for more than two decades.
