Germany forward Deniz Undav celebrates after scoring the stoppage-time winner in a 2-1 FIFA World Cup victory over Ivory Coast in Toronto.

Toronto, Canada: Germany became the latest team to book a place in the FIFA World Cup 2026 Round of 32 after substitute Deniz Undav scored twice, including a dramatic stoppage-time winner, to inspire a 2-1 comeback victory over Ivory Coast on Saturday.

The four-time world champions moved to six points from two matches and secured qualification with a game to spare, joining the growing list of teams through to the knockout stage.

Ivory Coast had looked on course for a famous result after captain Franck Kessié fired the Elephants ahead in the 30th minute following a well-worked attacking move.

The Africans defended resolutely and frustrated Germany for long periods, carrying their advantage into halftime as Julian Nagelsmann’s side struggled to create clear-cut chances.

Germany emerged stronger after the break and eventually found a breakthrough through Undav, who had been introduced from the bench.

The forward levelled matters in the 68th minute with a well-taken finish to breathe life into Germany’s challenge.

With the match seemingly heading for a draw, Germany continued to press forward in search of a winner while Ivory Coast fought desperately to hold on to a valuable point.

Their resistance was finally broken in the fourth minute of added time when Undav struck again, completing his brace and sparking wild celebrations among the German supporters.

The victory extends Germany’s unbeaten start to the tournament following their emphatic opening win over Curaçao and leaves them firmly in control of Group E heading into their final group match against Ecuador.

For Ivory Coast, the defeat leaves qualification hanging in the balance. The Elephants remain on three points and must now secure a positive result against Curaçao in their final group fixture to boost their chances of reaching the knockout rounds.
