Ainembabazi stars as Kampala Queens beat Kawempe 2-0 to win maiden FUFA Women’s Cup

KAMPALA, Uganda: Joanitah Ainembabazi delivered another match-winning performance as Kampala Queens FC defeated Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC 2-0 on Sunday to lift their maiden FUFA Women’s Cup title at FUFA Stadium, Kadiba.

The forward scored the opening goal and later walked away with both the Top Scorer and Most Valuable Player awards as Kampala Queens crowned a memorable season with silverware.

Ainembabazi broke the deadlock in the 38th minute, giving Kampala Queens a deserved advantage after a tightly contested first half between two of Uganda’s top women’s football sides.

The goal settled Kampala Queens and handed them momentum heading into the halftime break.

Kawempe Muslim, who entered the final as FUFA Women Super League champions, returned strongly after the restart and created several opportunities in search of an equaliser.

However, Kampala Queens remained resilient at the back, with goalkeeper Sharon Norah Kaidu producing a composed display to keep Kawempe at bay.

As Kawempe pushed forward in the closing stages, Kampala Queens struck the decisive blow deep into stoppage time.

Kamiyat Naigaga embarked on a brilliant solo run before calmly finishing to seal a 2-0 victory and spark celebrations among the Queens faithful.

The triumph secured Kampala Queens’ first-ever FUFA Women’s Cup crown and marked a major milestone in the club’s history.

The final also highlighted the club’s dominance throughout the competition, with several Kampala Queens players collecting individual accolades.

Ainembabazi’s outstanding tournament earned her both the Top Scorer and Most Valuable Player awards, while teammate Sharon Norah Kaidu was named Best Goalkeeper.

Midfielder Shamusa Najjuma also received recognition after being voted Best Midfielder of the tournament.

Despite finishing runners-up, Kawempe Muslim defender Samalie Nakacwa was named Best Defender following her consistent performances throughout the competition.
