Kampala, Uganda: Journalist and NUP social media activist Andrew Natumanya, popularly known as Ninye Tabz, has been released on police bond after several days in detention and ordered to report back to investigators next week.

A police bond form seen by DailyExpress indicates that Natumanya is being investigated over allegations of unauthorised disclosure of official information and unlawful disclosure of personal data.

According to the bond conditions, he is required to report to the CID Commander at Kampala Metropolitan Police Headquarters and Kampala Central Police Station (CPS) next Monday, June 29, 2026, at 10:00 a.m.

Natumanya was brought to CPS Kampala on Monday after reportedly spending several days in an undisclosed detention facility.

The identities of the complainants have not been officially disclosed. However, State Minister for Local Government, Hon. Justine Kasule Lumumba Nameere, recently confirmed filing a police complaint against Natumanya following a public dispute between the two on the social media platform X.

Last week, the opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) alleged that Natumanya had been abducted by unidentified security operatives in Kampala.

“We’ve just been informed of the abduction of @NinyeTabz from Kamwokya a short while ago. He has been whisked away in a drone. The lawlessness continues!” NUP Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya posted on X.

The allegations sparked concern among opposition supporters, human rights activists and media practitioners, who demanded information regarding his whereabouts.

As of Monday evening, police had not publicly explained where Natumanya was held before being transferred to CPS Kampala or whether the investigations are directly linked to the complaint reportedly lodged by Minister Nameere.

His release on bond means investigations remain ongoing, and he is required to comply with all reporting requirements as authorities continue gathering evidence in the case.

Natumanya has built a sizeable online following through his journalism work and social media commentary, where he frequently discusses political, governance and public accountability issues.

The case is expected to attract continued public interest as investigators proceed with their inquiries.
