Wakiso, Uganda: Police at Kasangati Central Police Station are holding a boda boda rider on allegations of aggravated defilement involving his 13-year-old stepdaughter in Wakiso District.
The suspect has been identified as Ronald Mayanja, a resident of Lutete Village, Kumunana Zone, Nangabo Parish in Kasangati Town Council.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, SP Rachael Kawala, preliminary investigations indicate that the victim lost her biological mother at the age of six and was subsequently taken in by her stepfather, Mayanja, who raised her alongside his other children.
Police allege that the suspect repeatedly defiled the girl between the ages of 12 and 13 after allegedly chasing her away from home.
Authorities received information regarding the alleged abuse and responded by arresting the suspect, who is currently being held at Kasangati Central Police Station as investigations continue.
“We strongly condemn all forms of violence and violations of children’s rights and urge members of the public to promptly report any suspected cases to the relevant authorities to ensure timely intervention and protection of children,” Kawala said.
Police have not disclosed further details about the circumstances surrounding the case in order to protect the identity and welfare of the minor.
The case adds to growing concerns over child abuse and sexual violence against minors, with authorities urging parents, guardians, community leaders, and members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspected cases promptly.
Authorities said investigations into the matter are ongoing and once concluded, the suspect will be arraigned in court to face the charges.
