Nakaseke, Uganda: Beneficiaries of government wealth creation initiatives in Nakaseke shared inspiring stories of transformation as the Office of the National Chairman (ONC), led by National Coordinator Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo, continued its empowerment tour across the Greater Luwero sub-region.

The engagements, held Tuesday, June 23, in Nakaseke Town Council, highlighted the impact of empowerment programs championed by President Museveni through the ONC, with beneficiaries citing increased incomes, business expansion and job creation as key outcomes.

Among the beneficiaries was Balwanyi Jane, who credited ONC support for helping her establish and grow a poultry farming enterprise.

Jane said she received 200 chickens through an ONC empowerment initiative and, through proper management, expanded the flock to 500 birds. Although her family later sold part of the flock to cater for her husband’s medical treatment, she currently maintains more than 400 chickens.

“I thank President Museveni, Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo and the ONC team for empowering us. The support has greatly improved our livelihood and enabled us to generate income for our family,” Jane said.

She appealed to government to address water scarcity in the area, which she described as one of the biggest challenges affecting farmers and residents.

Another beneficiary, Senabulya Michael, a farmer from Nakaseke Saza Zone, said support from ONC helped him diversify and expand his agricultural ventures.

Senabulya, who now owns more than a hectare of coffee gardens, said he earns between Shs7 million and Shs8 million monthly from coffee sales. He also operates poultry, fish farming and tomato-growing projects.

Having received 200 chicks and 15 sacks of poultry feed from ONC three years ago, Ssenabulya says these laid the foundation for his successful commercial poultry enterprise.

Inspired by President Museveni’s wealth creation message under the Musevenomics philosophy, he later ventured into fish farming and expanded from about 200 fish to more than 4,000 fish across two ponds. “Last week I harvested and sold over 400 fish. Every six months, I sell more than 500 fish at Shs15,000 each,” he said.

Senabulya currently employs five workers who earn monthly salaries, contributing to employment opportunities within the community.

However, he identified shortages of fish nets, fish feed and poultry feed as key constraints affecting the growth of his enterprises.

During interactions with beneficiaries, Hajjat Namyalo pledged to engage relevant government agencies, including Operation Wealth Creation and the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries, to mobilise additional support and agricultural inputs.

“Government empowerment programs are meant to transform lives. We encourage beneficiaries to remain committed, hardworking and focused on creating sustainable sources of income,” Namyalo said.

The tour also highlighted the success story of Nabitaka Ruth and Nantambi Rose, who transformed a single sewing machine received during a youth empowerment event at Kasala Parish Playground in Luwero into a thriving tailoring business.

The pair said the sewing machine enabled them to start generating income, eventually allowing them to acquire a second machine and expand their operations.

Today, the enterprise supplies school uniforms under various contracts, serves individual clients and employs six workers. The business has also evolved into a training centre where young people acquire tailoring skills.

“We started working from home, but today we operate from rented premises and our business continues to grow. We are grateful to President Museveni and Hajjat Namyalo for giving us this opportunity,” the beneficiaries said.

They appealed for an embroidery machine to help increase production capacity and enable them to secure larger contracts.

The ONC empowerment tour continues across the Greater Luwero sub-region, with beneficiaries showcasing how government support has contributed to household income growth, enterprise development and employment creation.

Hajjat Namyalo reaffirmed the Office of the National Chairman’s commitment to monitoring beneficiaries, addressing challenges affecting productivity and ensuring government empowerment programs continue delivering tangible results to communities across Uganda.
