Kampala City, Uganda: Police in Kawempe are holding in custody popular TikToker Katongole Anthony, commonly known as “Chicken Chicken,” over the alleged malicious damage of a vehicle belonging to comedian and content creator Sali Sharif, popularly known as “Shawa Shawa.”

Chicken-Chicken’s arrest follows the circulation of a viral video on social media that allegedly shows the suspect participating in the destruction of the comedian’s car.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson SP Racheal Kawala, the incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday, June 25, at the parking area of Akamweesi Mall in Kawempe Division.

“The arrest follows a viral video circulating on social media platforms, which allegedly shows the suspect damaging a Toyota Mark X, registration number UBM 696S, belonging to Sali Sharif, also known as ‘Shawa Shawa’,” SP Kawala said in a statement released Thursday afternoon.

“The incident is reported to have occurred on 25th June 2026 at approximately 3:00 a.m. in the parking area of Akamweesi Mall, located in Kawempe Division, Kampala District,” she added.

SP Kawala said preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect was allegedly acting together with several other individuals who remain on the run.

“Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect, together with other individuals who are still at large, allegedly smashed the vehicle’s windscreens, causing extensive damage,” she added.

The motive behind the incident had not yet been officially established by Thursday evening, but Kawala said detectives will review video footage, interview witnesses, and analyze other evidence as part of ongoing investigations.

“The suspect is currently in police custody as investigations continue. Efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the other individuals believed to have participated in the incident,” police said.

The case has attracted significant attention on social media due to the popularity of both the suspect and the complainant within Uganda’s entertainment and online content creation industry.

Ms Kawala also used the incident to warn members of the public against engaging in acts of violence, vandalism and destruction of property.

“Police strongly condemn all acts of lawlessness and wish to remind the public that such conduct will not be tolerated and that anyone found engaging in criminal acts will be dealt with in accordance with the law,” she concluded.
