Namisindwa, Uganda: Namisindwa District leaders have officially launched the maintenance of the 9.4-kilometre Bubutu–Magale Road, a UGX180 million infrastructure project aimed at improving connectivity and boosting socio-economic activities in the district.
The project was launched on Monday at Mutufu Trading Centre and will involve grading and murraming the entire road to enhance accessibility for residents, businesses and public institutions.
Speaking at the launch, District Road Inspector Victor Mafumo, who represented the District Engineer, said the contractor had already commenced work and is expected to complete the project within two weeks.
“The project involves grading and murraming the entire 9.4-kilometre stretch. Works have officially started today, and we expect them to be completed within the next two weeks,” Mafumo said.
He appealed to residents living along the road corridor to cooperate with the contractor and create a conducive environment to ensure quality work and timely completion.
Resident District Commissioner Elijah Madoi urged all stakeholders to support the implementation of government infrastructure projects, saying the district leadership remains committed to transparency and accountability in public service delivery.
“We shall continue launching government projects so that the public remains informed and involved, while ensuring accountability and transparency throughout implementation,” Madoi said.
District LCV Chairperson Bwayo Emma said the Bubutu–Magale Road is among the district’s priority roads because of its strategic importance to surrounding communities.
He explained that the road links four lower local governments and serves more than eight schools, two health facilities, several churches and two major markets, making it a vital transport corridor for education, healthcare, trade and agriculture.
“The entire 9.4 kilometres will be murramed. Our priority is to ensure value for money through close monitoring and supervision so that residents receive a quality road that meets their needs,” Bwayo said.
He added that improving the road will reduce transport costs, ease movement of agricultural produce to markets and improve access to essential social services.
The project forms part of Namisindwa District’s ongoing efforts to improve the local road network and facilitate economic growth by enhancing rural connectivity.
