Mukono, Uganda: Uganda Christian University (UCU) graduated 1,274 students during the first session of its 27th Graduation Ceremony, with university and Church leaders urging the graduates to uphold integrity, humility, faith and servant leadership as they begin the next chapter of their lives.

The graduation ceremony was held on Friday, July 03, at the university’s main campus in Mukono and attracted church leaders, parents, guardians, lecturers, and well-wishers.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Vice Chancellor, Canon Prof. Aaron Mushengyezi, revealed that the graduating class comprised 698 females, representing 55 percent, and 576 males, accounting for 45 percent. Of these, 102 students graduated with First Class honours.

Prof. Mushengyezi congratulated the graduates and challenged them to measure success not only by professional accomplishments but also by the values they uphold and the positive impact they make in their communities.

“As you join the global community, remember that true success is measured by your service to others, your integrity in leadership, and your faithfulness in every endeavour you pursue. Go forth as torchbearers of these noble virtues,” he said.

The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda and Chancellor of Uganda Christian University, the Most Rev. Dr. Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu, reminded the graduates that their conduct after university would reflect both on themselves and their alma mater.

“As you leave the gates of Uganda Christian University today, I urge you to keep discipline and to represent well the name of the institution that has made you who you are. Wherever life takes you, never forget that Uganda Christian University will remain your Alma Mater forever,” Archbishop Kaziimba said.

The Archbishop cautioned the graduates that the choices they make in life would either uphold or diminish the reputation of the university, urging them to safeguard both their personal character and the institution’s name.

He further encouraged them to build careers, families and lives founded on enduring Christian values and to let their good works become a testimony that glorifies God.

Delivering the keynote address, the Guest of Honour and C.O.U Archbishop emeritus, Rt. Rev. Dr. Henry Luke Orombi reminded graduates that their education at UCU had equipped them with more than academic knowledge.

Quoting 1 Corinthians 15:58, Bishop Orombi encouraged the graduates to remain steadfast in their Christian faith and continue serving God faithfully wherever they go.

“As you leave this place today, carry with you the foundation this University has laid in you. Stand firm. Let nothing move you. Give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, knowing that your labour in Him is not in vain,” he said.

Wherever you go, be people who build and do not destroy. Preserve what is good and beautiful, just as this University has taught you.”

He challenged the graduates to become ambassadors of positive transformation, using their education and Christian values to serve society with integrity, compassion and excellence.

The first session of UCU’s 27th Graduation Ceremony marked another milestone in the university’s commitment to producing graduates equipped with both academic competence and Christian character to serve Uganda and the global community.
