Kampala, Uganda: Deputy Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa has commended the NRM Treasurer for Iganga District, Hajji Ismail Badogi Waguma, for voluntarily withdrawing his parliamentary election petition challenging Hon. Samuel Kungu Bamuteeze, the elected Member of Parliament for Kigulu North Constituency.
In a statement issued on Monday, July 13, Tayebwa described Badogi’s decision as an act of statesmanship that demonstrates commitment to unity within the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) and the continued stability of Kigulu North Constituency and the wider Busoga sub-region.
“I sincerely appreciate my brother Hajji Ismail Badogi Waguma for voluntarily withdrawing his parliamentary election petition challenging Hon. Kungu Samuel Bamuteeze, the elected representative for Kigulu North Constituency in Iganga District,” Tayebwa said.
The Deputy Speaker noted that Badogi’s decision reflects selflessness and a desire to safeguard cohesion within the party following the recently concluded elections.
“His gracious and selfless act reflects a deep dedication to preserving unity within NRM and promoting the stability and progress of Kigulu North and the broader Busoga sub-region. Hajji Badogi is the NRM Party treasurer for Iganga District.”
Tayebwa further praised Badogi for embracing the ideals of party solidarity, saying his decision aligns with the National Resistance Movement’s principles under President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
“By choosing to withdraw the petition, Hajji Badogi has shown remarkable statesmanship and a firm commitment to party solidarity. His decision underscores his clear grasp of the NRM’s guiding principles and long-term vision, as championed by the party’s Chairman and the President, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.”

The Deputy Speaker also used the opportunity to encourage other NRM members with pending electoral disputes to pursue dialogue and reconciliation instead of prolonged court battles.
“I encourage colleagues with electoral petitions, especially those of NRM, to talk and harmonize their issues outside court.”
The withdrawal of the petition clears the way for Hon. Samuel Kungu Bamuteeze to continue representing Kigulu North without the uncertainty of ongoing court proceedings and comes amid broader efforts within the NRM leadership to encourage internal dispute resolution following the party’s electoral processes.
Political observers say an amicable settlement of election-related disputes could help strengthen party cohesion ahead of future political engagements while reducing protracted legal battles among party members.
