The Adjumani District Health Officer {DHO} Dr. Drametu Dominic has caused the transfer of Zoka health center II in charge of Acidri Victor following allegations of gross misconduct, negligence, and abscondment from duty.

Zoka health center II is located in Itirikwa sub county, and sits on the edge of Zoka forest with a catchment area of over 30.000 people.

The administrative action according to Dr. Drametu is aimed at improving health service delivery at lower level health facilities and instilling discipline among health workers.

Acidri Victor has been transferred to Adjumani hospital effective Monday this week, where he will be monitored closely pending investigations into the alleged breach of rules and regulations.

The infuriated Adjumani CAO Jack Byaruhanga said the in charge Acidri Victor acted without due diligence when on June 9, 2021, all the 4 staff deployed at the facility abandoned duty including the watchman who was digging 300 meters away.

He hailed the district councilor Itirikwa sub county Isadru Gabriel for his vigilance and bringing the matter to the attention of the DHO.

He said his office has reprimanded all the 4 staff at the facility and re-enforced them with fresh blood as in charge and will continue supervising them closely.

The secretary for health Sabuni John has warned of grave consequences against any health worker who do not respect professional work ethics especially in relation to duty attendance and handling patients adding that his office will soon engage in what he termed as “water tight monitoring”.

Reports indicates that several in charges of lower level health units abandon duty station on Fridays immediately after lunch break and return on duty on Tuesdays the following week to the misery of the communities they serve.

Members of the public have been viewing with concern the rampant absenteeism and negligence of duty by in charges at lower-level health facilities especially due to gaps in leadership where some in charges who have overstayed at a station have become kings.
