Prof. Anguma Simon appointed acting Vice Chancellor Muni University

This follows the unfortunate demise of the former Vice Chancellor, late Prof. Christine Dranzoa who died on 28th June 2022 at Mulago National Referral Hospital.

ARUA, UGANDA: Associate Professor Anguma Simon Katrini has been appointed as the acting Vice Chancellor of Muni University (VU).

This follows the unfortunate demise of the former Vice Chancellor, late Prof. Christine Dranzoa who died on 28th June 2022 at Mulago National Referral Hospital.

Prof Anguma’s appointment was confirmed in a university press release dated September 02, 2022 and will serve as the University vice chancellor for a period of six months after which the governing council will sit to select a permanent vice chancellor.

“Pursuant to section 31 (4) of the Universities and other Tertiary Institutions Act 2001 as amended and on the recommendation of the Muni University Council, the Chancellor of Muni University appointed Assoc. Prof. Anguma Simon Katrini as the Acting Vice Chancellor Muni University for a period of six (06) months, effective 1st September 2022”, the Memo reads in part.

Assoc. Prof. Anguma Simon Katrini holds a Master of Science in Physics, specializing in Nuclear Radiation Physics, and a PhD in Physics, specializing in Solar Energy Physics.

He joined MU as the Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of Academic Affairs in November 2015. Earlier, he served as the head of physics department, Associate Dean of the Faculty of Science, and later Dean of Faculty of Science at Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) for eight years.

During his time at Muni, Mr. Anguma has supervised several postgraduate students at both masters and PhD levels, authored several scientific publications, a member of several Boards, and is a leader of East African Astronomical.

As an Associate professor of physics, he is highly respected in his field including being awarded as the best mobilizer of research funds in Faculty of Science, MUST for the year 2013.

He also received award of appreciation from Uganda National Council for Science and Technology for the role he played as Chairperson of MUST Research Ethics Committee from 2009 to 2015.
