Busoga United docked three points over fans’ hooliganism, Nyago summoned

FUFA last week condemned the act by the home team and its fans and confirmed the disciplinary team had already instituted inquiries into the violent conduct.

KAMPALA, UGANDA: The FUFA disciplinary committee has deducted three points from Busoga United after being found guilty of fan violence that led to the premature end of their UPL match with Express Fc at Kakindu stadium in Jinja last week.

During the intense encounter, the officials were forced to end the game before time after an 87th minute Express Fc goal by Ivan Kayiwa triggered violent protests from the home fans disagreeing with the officiation and started pelting stones towards them.

FUFA later that evening condemned the act by the home team and its fans and confirmed the disciplinary team had already instituted inquiries into the violent conduct.

The panel days later revealed its ruling yesterday (Monday) saying Busoga United was found guilty of the chaos and therefore lose three points and three goals in the process, leaving them in the relegation zone with only three points left

“Busoga United FC has been handed an immediate three points and three goals deduction from those already accumulated by the club this season,” the FUFA competitions disciplinary panel ruled.

Additionally, the panel also decided that the club will also get a suspended five-home match ban meaning they will have to look for a closed and neutral stadium outside Eastern Regional Football Association that is already licenced to host Uganda Premier League games this season.

The decision means Busoga United will have to incur more finances in terms of hiring the stadium and transport costs for the team from Busoga to the new ‘home”.

In the same vein, the disciplinary panel has also summoned Busoga United club chairperson, Diana Nyago to answer charges related to the same violence during the game against Express.

According to FUFA, Nyago is accused of denying the visiting team, access to the dressing room and exchanging abusive words with the coaches

“She further denied the kits man of the away team access to the field of play at about eight minutes to warm up time. The chamber shall pronounce itself on the matter upon conclusion of the investigations,” FUFA said.

The development comes a few days after record league champions SC Villa were docked two points, and two goals and also ordered to play the next five home games in a stadium outside Kampala over fan violence.

It remains to be seen if Busoga United and SC Villa will swap venues for their home matches, the fact that Villa that is in Kampala can ably host matches at Kakindu in Jinja (which is outside Kampala) and vice versa for Busoga United in Kampala (which is far from Jinja).
