Pajule Lions F.C 3
Gulu City Council F.C 1
Gulu City, Uganda: Pajule Lions Football Club (F.C.) of Pader District stunned Gulu City Council F.C. with a statement 3-1 away win on Saturday evening to hold onto second place on the FUFA Northern Regional League table.
The highly anticipated Match Day 6 encounter of the second round was staged at Awere Playground in Library Ward, Bardege-Layibi Division in Gulu City, and saw Francis Akera and Morris Ogwal combine to secure all three goals for the visiting side.
Akera fired Pajule Lions ahead in the 10th minute, converting a brilliant assist to silence the home crowd early on. However, Gulu City Council responded quickly after the break with a swift equalizer inside the opening five minutes of the second half.
The parity was short-lived as Ogwal stepped up to net a brace, first in the 60th minute and later in the 85th, sealing a crucial away win for the Lions.
“This win is very important for us because we want to keep our team in the top three in the table at the end of this season,” said Pajule Lions head coach Francis Obema. “We’re proving we can perform both at home and away.”
Gulu City Council F.C. Assistant Captain Felix Akera expressed disappointment over the home defeat, attributing it to poor logistical preparation and inadequate player mobilization.
“We regret losing essential points at home,” said Akera. “But we urge our fans and well-wishers to keep supporting us, especially with basic needs like water and supplies for the players in camp.”
The win keeps Pajule Lions second in the Elephant (Acholi Sub-region) Group with 32 points in 17 matches, and also maintains Gulu City Council in the third position with 32 points with the same number of matches played.
The group is being led by Young Academy F.C of Nwoya District with 36 points in 17 matches with six more games to go for all teams each.
