Gulu City, Uganda: Lango Queens F.C. and Sacred Heart Ladies F.C. have been relegated from the FUFA Elite Women’s League after suffering heavy defeats in their final fixtures of the 2024/25 season played over the weekend.
Lango Queens were humiliated 8–0 by Ateker Women F.C. in a one-sided encounter held in Lira City, while Sacred Heart Ladies F.C. fell 2–1 to Highway Ladies Women F.C. in a tense match at Gulu School of Clinical Officers (SOCO) playground in Gulu City.
Despite taking an early lead in the tenth minute, Sacred Heart Ladies were undone in the second half as Highway Ladies overturned the scoreline. Sacred Heart’s Head Coach, Muhamed Asuman, blamed the relegation on a demanding season compounded by their involvement in multiple competitions, including the USSSA ball games.
“I regret the fact that my team has been relegated after losing 2-1 to Highway Ladies. This has left Ateker Women F.C. to climb above us in the fifth position, rendering us into the relegation zone,” said Asuman.
With the results, Lango Queens finished bottom of the Elizabeth (North-East) group table with just three points from 11 matches, while Sacred Heart settled for sixth place with nine points—both sides failing to secure top-five survival spots.
Meanwhile, Pabo United Women F.C. from Amuru District survived the drop after ending the season in fourth position with 16 points. Their standing was cemented following a walkover win against Goldstar High School Ladies F.C, who failed to turn up for their final fixture scheduled at Pabo Primary School on Saturday. As per FUFA rules, Pabo United were awarded three points and three goals.
Pabo United’s head coach, Junior Mukiidi, praised his team’s resilience throughout the season and revealed they remain hopeful of climbing further up the table pending FUFA’s final disciplinary decisions.
“We believe we can finish second if FUFA awards points against teams that defaulted. That would be a great morale boost ahead of next season,” Mukiidi said.
The 2025/26 FUFA Women’s Regional League will now host both Lango Queens and Sacred Heart Ladies following their relegation.
