Paris, France: Ligue 1 Champions Paris Saint-Germain booked their place in the UEFA Champions League final after dispatching Arsenal 2–1 in the second leg of their semifinal clash on Wednesday night at Parc des Princes, sealing a 3–1 aggregate victory.
Coming into the return leg trailing by a goal, Mikel Arteta’s men arrived in Paris with belief, energy, and attacking intent, but no clinical edge as they were without a natural striker.
The Gunners dominated early spells but lacked punch in the penalty box, and moments later, PSG punished them with Fabian Ruiz striking in the 27th minute with a deflected volley that doubled the Parisians’ aggregate lead.
Achraf Hakimi then capped off a ruthless counter in the 72nd minute to seal Arsenal’s fate.
Although Arsenal managed a late consolation through a scrappy deflection, the damage had long been done.
PSG, backed by a dominant Gianluigi Donnarumma in goal, controlled the key moments and shut down any hopes of a comeback.
This PSG side, refocused and rejuvenated following the post-Mbappé transition, now look every bit the champions-in-waiting as they await their only second Champions League final in club history, set for May 31 in Munich, where they will meet Italian giants Inter Milan.
Arsenal, meanwhile, saw their European dream come to an end as they fell short of reaching what would have been their second final, 19 years after losing to Barcelona in Paris.
Still without a trophy since the 2020 FA Cup, all that is left to play for now for Mikel Arteta’s side is securing a third consecutive second-place finish in the Premier League.
