RDC Mwesigwa resigns, eye’s Kadaga’s Woman MP seat in Kamuli

RDC Deborah Mwesigwa (R) officially hands over office to her deputy, Mr. Sakajja Martin, (L), on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at the RDC offices in Kapchorwa.

The Resident District Commissioner (RDC) for Kapchorwa, Ms. Deborah Mwesigwa Mugerwa, has officially handed over office to her deputy, Mr. Sakajja Martin, as she prepares to contest for the Kamuli Woman MP seat in the 2026 general elections.

Ms. Mwesigwa, who is making a second attempt at the position currently held by First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for East African Affairs, Rt. Hon. Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga handed over administrative duties on Wednesday, May 14, during a brief function held at the RDC offices in Kapchorwa.

Her decision comes in line with Uganda’s electoral laws, which require civil servants intending to join elective politics to resign from public office at least 90 days before nomination for general elections.

During the handover ceremony, local government officials and community leaders praised Ms. Mwesigwa for her effective coordination of government programs, community outreach, and transparency throughout her tenure.

“It has been a privilege to serve this community,” she said. “I am confident that Mr. Sakajja will carry forward the mandate with commitment and integrity.”

Mr. Sakajja, who now assumes the RDC duties in an acting capacity, expressed gratitude for the opportunity and pledged to uphold the standard of leadership established by his predecessor.

“I will continue to serve the people diligently as we await further directive from the Hon. Minister for the Presidency,” Sakajja said. He further urged local leaders to rally communities in support of government initiatives and President Yoweri Museveni’s 2026 presidential bid.
