Museveni to deliver State of the Nation Address today at Kololo

Kampala, Uganda: President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is today, Thursday, June 5, 2025, expected to deliver the State of the Nation Address at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds, and officially open the Fifth Session of the 11th Parliament.

The constitutional address, which will also be broadcast live on UBC and other platforms, follows the May 29 prorogation of the Fourth Session by Speaker Anita Among, which formally marked the end of all pending parliamentary business, including bills, committee work, and motions.

Giving her end-of-session remarks earlier this week, Speaker Among noted that despite the passing of MPs Sarah Mateke (Kisoro Woman MP) and Muhammad Ssegirinya (Kawempe North), the Fourth Session registered strong performance.

“The House held 75 sittings, passed 33 bills, adopted 53 reports, and considered 213 urgent questions,” she said, calling on legislators to maintain the same energy and commitment in the new session.

The Speaker also indicated that new MPs Grace Ngabirano (Kisoro) and Luyimbazi Nalukola (Kawempe North) took their oaths during the concluded session.

What to expect in Museveni’s address

In today’s SONA, President Museveni is expected to;

  • Outline key government priorities under the National Development Plan III;
  • Provide updates on the oil and gas sector ahead of Uganda’s first oil production;
  • Clarify Uganda’s commitment to EAC integration and regional diplomacy;
  • Speak on agro-industrialisation, Parish Development Model progress, and poverty alleviation;
  • Reinforce anti-corruption measures and public accountability frameworks.

The President may also highlight security issues, service delivery gaps, and opportunities for youth employment as the country edges closer to the 2026 general elections.

The State of the Nation Address is a constitutional requirement under Article 101(1) of the 1995 Constitution, mandating the President to address Parliament at the start of each session.
