Armed thugs stab guard, steal rifle in Iganga robbery at agent banking shop

The attackers reportedly struck and stabbed the guard, leaving him with severe head injuries before robbing him of a SAR rifle which was loaded with five rounds of live ammunition.

Iganga, Uganda: Police in Iganga District have launched investigations into a violent aggravated robbery in which a security guard was brutally attacked and a government firearm stolen.

The victim, identified as Ochen Vincent, 28, a guard attached to Wolves Security Company, was assaulted while on duty at Samisa Electronics and an agent banking outlet in Kasokoso Central I Village, Iganga Municipality.

According to Busoga East police spokesperson Michael Kasadha, the incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday, April 16, 2026, at around 4:00 am.

“Unknown assailants attacked the guard while on duty at Samisa electronics and agent banking premises,” Kasadha said.

The attackers reportedly struck and stabbed the guard, leaving him with severe head injuries before robbing him of a SAR rifle, registration number UG PSO 56S4101565-13018, which was loaded with five rounds of live ammunition.

They fled the scene, leaving the victim unconscious in a pool of blood.

Police responded to the scene later that morning, led by the Officer in Charge of Iganga Central Police Station.

A sniffer dog was deployed and tracked the suspects’ scent to a video hall located approximately one kilometre from the crime scene.

Authorities confirmed that several exhibits were recovered to aid forensic analysis, while CCTV footage from the premises has been retrieved and is under review.

The injured guard was initially rushed to Iganga General Hospital before being referred to Jinja Regional Referral Hospital for further treatment.

No arrests had been made by press time, but investigations remain ongoing.

Local leaders have raised concerns over the safety and supervision of private security personnel.

Kasokoso Central I Chairperson Tonny Tibukuza condemned the attack and urged security companies to strengthen oversight, especially during night shifts.

“We urge companies to maintain routine supervision of their workers at night,” Tibukuza said, warning of increased vulnerability of businesses.

The theft of a firearm in the incident has heightened security concerns in the area, with authorities warning of potential misuse if the weapon is not quickly recovered.

Police have reiterated their commitment to tracking down the suspects and recovering the stolen rifle.
