Man, 32, found dead at his home in Nebbi

The incident comes barely a week after another man, Ongey Alfred Pimundu, 54, was also found dead inside his house in the same sub-county, raising fresh concern among residents over unexplained deaths in the area.

Police officers and residents gather at the scene where a 32-year-old man was found dead in his house in Nebbi District.

Nebbi, Uganda: Police in Nebbi District have opened investigations into the sudden death of a 32-year-old man, Oyirwoth Jonathan, who was found lifeless inside his house in Jupathombu Village, Goli Parish, Jupangira Sub-county.

According to family members, the deceased was last seen alive on Sunday, April 20, before his body was discovered on Tuesday morning by his mother, Manuela Apoi.

“I opened the door and thought he was sleeping, so I closed it. But the way he was lying did not look right. I went back and tried to call him. That’s when I realised he was dead,” Apoi said.

Local leaders say the incident has left residents in shock, with many gathering at the scene as police began preliminary inquiries.

Jupathombu Village LCI Chairman Richard Obote confirmed that he alerted authorities after verifying the death. “I went and confirmed it was true. I then called police from Goli Customs Police Station. They responded and later informed Nebbi Central Police Station,” Obote said.

He added that the deceased’s body showed signs of bleeding, raising questions about the exact cause of death.

A team from Nebbi Central Police Station visited the scene, recorded statements, and secured the area.

However, police efforts to conduct a postmortem examination were halted after family members and local leaders objected, citing the deceased’s known history of heart complications and insisting no foul play was suspected.

By press time, police had not issued an official cause of death.

Authorities have since cautioned residents against interfering with crime scenes, urging the public to allow proper investigations in similar incidents.

The incident comes barely a week after another man, Ongey Alfred Pimundu, 54, was also found dead inside his house in the same sub-county, raising fresh concern among residents over unexplained deaths in the area.

While the exact cause in this case remains unclear, Uganda continues to grapple with various categories of sudden and unexplained deaths.

According to the Uganda Police Annual Crime Report 2025, cases categorized under sudden deaths and deaths by unknown causes remain a concern, often complicated by delayed reporting, limited forensic follow-up, and refusal of postmortem examinations in rural communities.
